Behind our proprietary peptide complex: over 1.5 years of development, two years of R&D and a formulation brief shaped by life in India.
Every formula begins with a brief. Ours began with a challenge.
We wanted to build a homegrown molecular haircare range that brought a peptide-led approach to hair repair - and made sense for the routines people follow in India.
That meant thinking about the strand itself, alongside hard-water washes, humid weather, pollution exposure, heat styling and regular oiling.
The journey led to Trichopeptics™, K Formula’s proprietary peptide complex.
In Science Class 103, we introduced peptides and their relevance to hair. This is the story of how that scientific interest became our development programme.
The starting point: a repair-focused brief
Hair damage is something people experience through everyday frustrations.
More tangles after washing. Rougher lengths. Breakage while brushing. Ends that become harder to manage.
Behind those experiences is a layered fibre whose behaviour depends on its internal organisation. Keratin filaments, their surrounding protein-rich matrix and the structure of the strand all contribute to how hair responds to force.
For K Formula, that structure became the starting point.
We wanted to explore a protein-focused approach to haircare, then translate it into products people could use within an ordinary wash routine.

The research direction: why we chose peptides
Peptide research offered a compelling direction because it examined interactions with the hair fibre itself.
Published studies had investigated how peptide structure affected penetration into damaged hair and how selected treatments influenced mechanical properties. One study found that the position of a charged sequence changed peptide penetration, with improvements in the tensile strength of bleached hair under the conditions tested.
That research helped frame the opportunity.
Our work was to develop K Formula’s own peptide complex and the formulations around it. The results of existing research provided context; they could not substitute for evidence about our finished products.
From scientific interest to Trichopeptics™
The development of Trichopeptics™ took over 1.5 years.
It sat within a broader two-year R&D journey, during which we worked through more than 30 formulation iterations.
The complex and the finished formulas needed to be considered together. An ingredient’s behaviour depends partly on the formulation carrying it, while the product experience depends on everything the customer applies.
That meant keeping molecular questions and practical questions in the same brief.
What role would each product have? How would it apply? How would the hair feel afterwards? Where would the treatment fit before or after washing?
Trichopeptics™ became the central peptide platform around which we developed K Formula’s molecular haircare approach.
The insight that shaped our development
One important lesson from peptide research is that deeper penetration and better performance are not interchangeable.
In a study comparing hydrolysed keratin materials of different molecular weights, some entered the cortex while larger materials mainly deposited on the surface. Their effects varied across the properties measured.
For us, this reinforced the importance of asking a precise question: what does the finished treatment help the hair do?
Strength, breakage, combability and appearance are different outcomes. A development programme needs to understand those differences rather than treat them as one result.
Engineered in India: what our brief included

K Formula’s development was rooted in an Indian use context.
India has diverse hair types, climates and water conditions. Our brief therefore considered several experiences that can shape a routine.
Hard water raised questions about performance under different wash-water conditions.
Humidity made post-wash manageability an important consideration.
Pollution exposure brought environmental conditions into the brief.

Regular oiling meant considering how treatments and cleansing would fit around an established habit.
Heat styling added another practical context for a repair-focused routine.
For us, engineered in India means allowing those realities to influence development from the beginning.
The aim was to make peptide-powered haircare relevant to the way people actually care for their hair here.
Why testing needs more than one answer
A technology story becomes useful when its claims connect to defined measurements.
For hair strength, tensile testing examines how fibres respond to pulling.
For breakage, a controlled grooming assessment can measure what happens during repeated brushing.
For detangling, combability measurements evaluate the force needed to move through the hair.
For appearance and feel, assessments need to address those particular outcomes.
Environmental evaluations require the same precision. Hard-water testing should specify water hardness and wash conditions. Humidity testing should define exposure levels. Pollution-focused work should identify the material, exposure and endpoint being studied.
These distinctions matter to our technology story. Evidence for Trichopeptics™ must relate to the complex being evaluated, and product claims must relate to the finished formula and its intended use.
Bringing the platform into a routine
Our next task was to translate the peptide platform into products with clear roles.
The Peptide Hair Corrector belongs before shampooing. The Peptide Shampoo and Peptide Conditioner sit within the wash routine. The Molecular Leave-In Magic Mask brings our molecular haircare focus into a post-wash treatment.
Different formats create different formulation demands. Application, rinsing, texture and time on the hair all become part of the product brief.
That is why developing a complex and developing a range are connected pieces of work. The platform provides a scientific direction; each formula needs to deliver a usable experience.
What the discovery means to us
For K Formula, the discovery of Trichopeptics™ describes a development journey: identifying a promising research direction, developing our proprietary complex and building a homegrown range around it.
It took over 1.5 years to develop the complex, within two years of R&D and more than 30 formulation iterations.
The ambition throughout was consistent: connect peptide-focused hair science with an India-first formulation brief.
That is the story behind Trichopeptics™ - and the foundation of K Formula’s molecular haircare approach.
Engineered in India. Developed through iteration. Built around peptides.
Class dismissed. Behind every formula is a development story.
